God’s Word
We believe the Holy Scriptures are the authoritative Word of God and the foundation for our faith, teaching, preaching, and daily Christian life.
Mount Zion Anglican Church is a Christ-centred, Spirit-filled, and biblically grounded Anglican community in Chicago. Rooted in the historic Anglican tradition and born from a missionary vision, we exist to worship God, grow faithful disciples, strengthen families, and share the Gospel with our community and beyond.
ABOUT US
Our Story: 20 Years of God’s Faithfulness
Mount Zion Anglican Church was established as part of the missionary vision of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) to provide a place of Anglican worship and Christian fellowship for people in the northern part of Chicago. What began as a mission of All Saints’ Anglican Church, Chicagoland, grew from a desire to build a worshipping community that was Spirit-filled, liturgical, evangelical, and firmly grounded in the Word of God.
The church held its first worship service on January 8, 2006, at the Institute of Cultural Affairs on North Sheridan Road in Chicago. From those early beginnings, clergy and laity have worked together through changing seasons, locations, leadership, challenges, and opportunities to establish and strengthen the congregation. Today, that journey stands as a testimony to God’s faithfulness and the dedication of generations of His people.
Our identity is deeply rooted in the Anglican tradition. We uphold the authority of Holy Scripture, embrace the historic Christian Creeds, celebrate the Sacraments, and value the reverence and richness of Anglican worship. At the same time, we seek to be Spirit-filled and evangelical, proclaiming Jesus Christ, teaching God’s Word, nurturing believers, and equipping His people for Christian service and mission.
As we look beyond our first twenty years, our calling remains unchanged. We desire to be a Christ-centred and multicultural church where people can worship, belong, grow, serve, and encounter the transforming presence of God. With gratitude for what God has done, we continue to build for the generations ahead, faithfully proclaiming Christ and carrying the Gospel into our community and beyond.
WHAT GUIDES US
Faith That Shapes How We Live
At Mount Zion, our faith is more than what we believe. It shapes how we worship, how we grow, how we serve one another, and how we represent Christ in our community. These values guide our life together as a church.
We believe the Holy Scriptures are the authoritative Word of God and the foundation for our faith, teaching, preaching, and daily Christian life.
We believe Jesus Christ is at the centre of our faith and mission. We proclaim Him as Lord and seek to grow together as His disciples.
We embrace the historic Christian faith handed down through generations and affirm the foundational truths expressed in the historic Creeds of the Church.
We value and celebrate the Sacraments within the Anglican tradition, recognising their important place in Christian worship, fellowship, and spiritual life.
We believe in the active presence and work of the Holy Spirit, depending on His power, guidance, presence, and gifts in the life and mission of the Church.
We bring together the richness and reverence of Anglican liturgical worship with evangelical faith and an openness to the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.
We proclaim the Gospel and help people grow into mature followers of Christ.
We believe God equips every believer with gifts for ministry. Every member has a part to play in building up the Church and advancing God’s Kingdom.
We believe the Church should be a welcoming home for people of different nations, cultures, languages, and generations, united by faith in Jesus Christ.
We believe our faith should reach beyond Sunday worship. We are called to demonstrate Christ’s love through compassionate service and meaningful engagement with the needs of our community.
